It was over a year ago that I downloaded the VPN (Virtual Private Network) by Surfshark, now I can not take credit for finding this company, in fact I first heard about the service from “The Wynns” and I even used their discount code to get a discount on my purchase at the time.
So what the hell is a VPN and why does anyone need said VPN?
Well as stated above it is a virtual private network that allows you to pick what country you want to simulate, we had a simple American VPN way back in our sticks and bricks (house) and I mainly used it to stream the American version of Netflix, because the American version carried so many movies and series that were just not available to the Canadian Market. It was a simple VPN and did not have all the benefits of todays VPN’s. Many of todays VPNs offer connections to countries all over the world, which allows so many options to travelers like us to be able to stream Canadian television service while we are in the States and of course we can stream our American television service while in Canada. And of course you can still play havoc with streaming services such as Netflix which streams into hundreds of countries. This service even allowed me to purchase Ontario Lottery tickets while in British Columbia and Arizona, and the encryption for anyone that has had to use a public internet service like Tim Horton’s or McDonalds this keeps your data safe.
But one of the best benefits of this VPN is while surfing on the internet on our computers with the VPN on it protects your identity, encrypts our conversations and blocks most unwanted popups. Now I will admit after a year of using the VPN with my old laptop I had kind of lost the benefit of the popup blocker portion, but with the addition of my new laptop all the popups were driving me crazy, but after logging into our VPN service and logging the new laptop into the VPN server, all the annoying popups are gone again.
Is this a service that you need?
Only you can figure that out, but it involves taking stalk of what you do on the internet, the internet providers and how you get you entertainment. Using us as an example when we started travelling we had a huge struggle to get entertainment and even more difficult was trying to stay connected. So we spent a lot of money with satellite television as well as trying different services to stay connected, lots of different attempts and just as many failures. But as we struggled through each issue we learnt so much with each failure, so this year for the first time we have an American streaming service as well as a Canadian streaming service and now we can watch what ever we want at any given time. As an example tonight we are sitting in the coach at a Cracker Barrel parking lot, we just watched tonight’s Canadian news broadcast out of Toronto, then a prerecorded episode of the voice, followed by the pilot for the new series of “Irrational” on our American streaming service all thanks to our VPN service and just switching from a Toronto VPN to a Detroit VPN all on a mobile cellular service that operates in both Canada and the United States.
Here is some information on the Surf Shark VPN along with a link that if you use it I will receive the benefit on an extra month of service for free and you will get an extra month of service for free as well. Pricing for the plan that we have purchased is $2.75 US per month, we purchased 2 years worth of the service and certainly have had no regrets at all. Below is my link for the service.

In closing, this service may not for everyone, but the benefit of no popups and the encryption service alone is worth the price to us, and they even offer a 30 day free trial … just saying!
